From A to Z, starting with the Oberkrainer music of Slavko Avsenik , the World's Polka and Waltz King,  and ending with Eddie Zima  in just the polka music category, and then when you include all of the Lithuanian, Estonian, Latvian, Slovak, Czech, Moravian, Carpatho-Rusyn (Pod Karpatska Rus), Ukrainian, Russian,  Croatian, Byelo-Russian, Bulgarian, Macedonian, Dalmatian, Slovenian, Serbian, and the areas of the country formerly known as Jugo-Slavia...well ,...you'll just have to listen to the show on the Tuesday evening of June 16, 2009 from 7-10 at www.whrwfm.org  for the answer.

This program will be broadcast on Tuesday May 5, 2009 from 7-10 P. The program will also honor the many European and American blue-collar, working-class musician-composer-bandleaders who took the time to write and then record their music in the many styles and tempos to honor their own family matriarchs in a very special way--with music. It should be noted that these blue-collar, working-class musician-composer-bandleaders in Europe and America also wrote their music under some very difficult and trying economic and political conditions, thereby making their many hundreds of timeless musical selections compiled for the special Mother's Day program to be "the one, true perfect genre of music for the celebration of Mother's Day."

P. S. The European Ethnic Melodies Show, broadcast since 1988 on Binghamton University radio, WHRW-FM, has also been simulcast on the Internet since 1998. The program has been known as an elder-friendly music show since 1988, long before anyone ever coined and copyrighted the term, "elder-friendly."

4...May 26, 2009 ... 21st ANNUAL MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM (The national celebration of Memorial Day will be celebrated this year on Monday, May 25th.)

F.Y..I. ...I ALWAYS celebrate Memorial Day on May 30th...the original day for Memorial Day....formerly known as Decoration Day...so my special program for Memorial Day 2009 will be held this year on Tuesday May 26, 2009.  If you go on line on the 'net, you will find numerous web sites that readily acknowledge that Memorial Day has become a national holiday day of "convenience." There are many people( yes, actually MILLIONS  of citizens )    interested in re-establishing May 30th as the OFFICIAL Memorial Day in order to render a special tribute to those veterans who paid the supreme sacrifice for this nation.

Having a "national minute of remembrance" at 3:00 P.M. on the last Monday of May, is, in my opinion, NOT THE SAME as honoring those who gave so much to and for this nation. A valid patriotic and true Memorial Day should be returned to the original day, May 30th of every year in the future. To do less than this is an insult of the worst kind to every veteran who paid the supreme sacrifice for this nation.

SO, THIS YEAR IN 2009, TO HONOR OUR VETERANS, LET'S ALL WORK TO BECOME INVOLVED WITH CONTACTING OUR NATION'S LEADERS AND URGE THEM TO BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL MEMORIAL DAY IN ORDER TO HONOR OUR NATION'S VETERANS THE TRADITIONAL WAY, THE OLD-FASHIONED WAY, AND THE RIGHT WAY... BY HONORING AND  RE-ESTABLISHING MEMORIAL DAY AS THE NATIONAL HOLIDAY ONLY ON MAY 30th OF EVERY YEAR IN THE FUTURE.  IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO IN ORDER TO HONOR OUR NATION'S VETERANS WHO GAVE SO MUCH TO AND FOR THIS NATION!!!

During  these troubled and insecure economic times, you are invited to enjoy a very special evening of memorable, uplifting, and happy  music for the cele-bration of Mother's Day on the European Ethnic Melodies Show. This program will be broadcast on Tuesday May 5, 2009 from 7-10 P. M.  locally in the Binghamton, New York area at 90.5 on the FM dial, and simulcast world-wide, to all the points of the compass, at www.whrwfm.org. The family-structured program is  "grandchild-tested and parent and grandparent-approved" world-class musical enjoyment for an inter-generational audience located on two continents.

 

The annual special program for Mother's Day on the European Ethnic Melodies Show,  the Excel Award-winning program for "outstanding multi-cultural programming at Binghamton University," will showcase the most eclectic and diverse selection of the very dynamic life-force, multi-ethnic folk,

world, nationality, and polka music from two continents from the past century and more of recorded music. The program's musical selections, all identified in  the native European languages and then translated into English, will definitely put a smile on your face, a song in your heart, and make you feel good all over--both physically and mentally.

 

The program will also honor the many European and American blue-collar, working-class musician-composer-bandleaders who took the time to write and then record their music in the many styles and tempos to honor their own family matriarchs in a very special way--with music. It should be noted that these blue-collar, working-class musician-composer-bandleaders in Europe and America also wrote their music under some very difficult and trying economic and political conditions, thereby making their many hundreds of timeless musical selections compiled for the special Mother's Day program to be "the one, true perfect genre of music for the celebration of Mother's Day."  

 

You may be interested in knowing that the many Balto-Slavic Euro-American recorded musical selections from the past century and more of recorded music to honor mothers, grandmothers, godmothers, step-mothers, and mothers-in-law comprise the largest number of musical selections for Mother's Day when compared to any other genre of music--anywhere.

P. S. The European Ethnic Melodies Show, broadcast since 1988 on Binghamton University radio, WHRW-FM, has also been simulcast on the Internet since 1998. The program has been known as an elder-friendly music show since 1988, long before anyone ever coined and copyrighted the term, "elder-friendly."

F.Y..I. ...I ALWAYS celebrate Memorial Day on May 30th...the original day for Memorial Day....formerly known as Decoration Day...so my special program for Memorial Day 2009 will be held this year on Tuesday May 26, 2009.  If you go on line on the 'net, you will find numerous web sites that readily acknowledge that Memorial Day has become a national holiday day of "convenience." There are many people( yes, actually MILLIONS  of citizens )    interested in re-establishing May 30th as the OFFICIAL Memorial Day in order to render a special tribute to those veterans who paid the supreme sacrifice for this nation.

Having a "national minute of remembrance" at 3:00 P.M. on the last Monday of May, is, in my opinion, NOT THE SAME as honoring those who gave so much to and for this nation. A valid patriotic and true Memorial Day should be returned to the original day, May 30th of every year in the future. To do less than this is an insult of the worst kind to every veteran who paid the supreme sacrifice for this nation.

SO, THIS YEAR IN 2009, TO HONOR OUR VETERANS, LET'S ALL WORK TO BECOME INVOLVED WITH CONTACTING OUR NATION'S LEADERS AND URGE THEM TO BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL MEMORIAL DAY IN ORDER TO HONOR OUR NATION'S VETERANS THE TRADITIONAL WAY, THE OLD-FASHIONED WAY, AND THE RIGHT WAY... BY HONORING AND  RE-ESTABLISHING MEMORIAL DAY AS THE NATIONAL HOLIDAY ONLY ON MAY 30th OF EVERY YEAR IN THE FUTURE.  IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO IN ORDER TO HONOR OUR NATION'S VETERANS WHO GAVE SO MUCH TO AND FOR THIS NATION!!!

The Upcoming Schedule for February 2009 is as follows: 

1...February 3, 2009...Regular programming, including the celebration of the 5th season of the year, "Fasching Zeit." The "fifth season" is a very happy time of parties, good times, and merriment PRIOR to the start of the 40 days of Lent. If you were living in Europe with lots of snow on the ground and you were developing "cabin fever syndrome"  after the celebration of Christmas and Epiphany, you probably would want to get out of the house and just generally shake off the winter blahs. You would do this with some good music of your heritage and some friendly-spirited fun, along with the friendly spirits of grain alcohol or other fermented brews. 

Also, I presented my very first "Anti-Grammy Awards Show" with ALL of the original vinyl polka music recordings from the 1950's that should have, but never received ANY awards.The name of the special show was called "Daniel Jan's Grampy Awards" with abums containing original  polka music written and recorded by polka band leaders .The music for this  special show contained NO "doo-wop or hee-haw music,"that is, music previously recorded as rock and country  selections and then dumbed-down into 2/4 tempo polka music . These same songs  would then win Grammy Awards for the polka bands during the past 18 years. Why would anyone want to record these same second-hand, warmed-up, left-over hash music selections in a polka beat? Think about it!!!!! And, I've been speaking out  AGAINST the Grammy Awards since 1994. Is it time the Grammy Award for Polka Music bit the dust and left the building? It's long overdue, NO????

2...February 10, 2009....Special programming for the celebration of St. Valentine's Day entitled: "Songs To Celebrate St. Valentine's Day 2009, From The Music Of Your Cultural Heritage." This special program features THE MOST diverse eclectic selection of the very dynamic life-force European multi-ethnic folk, world, nationality, and polka music of your Balto-Slavic heritage from the past century and more of recorded music.

As always, identity for an inter-generational, world-wide audience is very important, for ALL the names of ALL the "songs of love" are identified in English and the native European language, as well as ALL the names of ALL the musicians, bands, choral groups, and vocalists, along with the native European instruments along with the country and region of origin. 3...February 17, 2009...Regular programming, including the celebration of the 5th season of the year, "Fasching Zelt."

 

4...February 24, 2009... Special programming for the celebration of  "Mardi Gras, European-style." The pre-Lenten celebration of the end of Fasching Time includes ALL the traditions, customs, and music of ALL the Balto-Slavic, Germanic, and other heritages from Europe who celebrate the hours, day, days, and week before Lent in some very special ways.

3...November 18, 20084...Special programming for the 55th Anniversary Celebration of the Oberkrainer-style of polka and waltz music created in 1953 by Slavko Avsenik.  This 9th Annual program and celebration is further designed to honor Slavko Avsenik on his birthday as being the true  "World's Polka and Waltz King"...Der Polka Und Der Walzer Koenig Der Welt.   ZIVIO, SLAVKO!!!

1...September 30, 2008...In cooperation with the Polish American Congress and Polonia across America, the 17th Annual celebration of "POLISH AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH" will begin on the European Ethnic Melodies Show. The special programs during the the last week of September and the entire month of October 2008 will focus on the culture, history, music, customs, and traditions of the nation of Poland.
